Of course now DAoC plat isn't worth much because people are quitting everyday.

Or you could get a job at a sweatshop and farm items for real life money. I hate to put words into someones mouth but I think the OP is looking for a game that offers the excitement and risk of a poker game, but is more in depth.

The only one i actively tried for a while was Project Entropia, but even this happened about the same time WoW was released which i then concentrated on fully so can't comment about it really. We can debate whether or not selling virtual property should be allowed in games that don't allow it but we can't debate whether or not selling virtual property should be allowed in games that do allow it? I don't think that's right but I didn't take debate so I don't know the official debate rules. I use to be against the sale of virtual items but have come to realize that the problems that I have with the sale of virtual items don't go away when you take real money out of the equation.

Bad game design remains bad no matter what the players' motivation to gain wealth is.
